The man of the night!-Oscars 2009

I decided to dedicate a post to who I thought was the man of the night at this year’s Oscars. I was in complete shock when I saw Robert Patterson in a Dolce and Gabbana tux. Being a young and up coming star in Hollywood you don't expect them to get it right but Robert did just that. He looked handsome and cleaned up well, even though the image of him being a vampire will never leave my head, he still wore that suit fantastically and looked very handsome. He also had an heir of a 50's look to him, reminding me of Dean Martin. The shoes being paten made the look. The tux did not look rented or prom-like.Well done Patterson! Watch out Brad Pitt you've got competition.

The Beauties at the Oscars.

There was so many, as always, who stunned on the red carpet at this year’s Oscars but as hard as it was, I have chosen my three favourite.

First up was Beyoncé who a lot of critics have chosen her House of Deréon gown as one of the worst dresses but I loved it. The gold pattern added to the black fabric made the dress look rich and couture. The fish tail showed off her fantastic figure and made her look every bit the star. Sleeking her hair back into a ponytail was the right decision making her look young and fresh. She kept her make-up plain and simple and also wore no Jewellery, not letting anything take away from this magnificent gown.

My next favourite was Sarah Jessica Parker's Dior couture gown. I adore this gown down to the last detail. Sarah is known for being able to pull off anything and she showed it in this dress. It reminds me of a fairytale princess dress that every young girl wants to wear but I think only she can. She looked fun, young and fresh in it. Her hair also flowed beautifully in loose waves and her make-up was simple to help with the youthful look. The belt around her waist was a nice touch to the dress allowing us to see her waist and showing off her figure. She teamed it with a nice bangle around her arm and a beautiful ring on her finger. Simple yet, elegant.

Last but not least was Miley Cyrus's dress by Zuhair Murad, who is my new favourite designer. Even though some critics have said the dress was a little old for her I still think she looked fantastic. The dress looked amazing on her, it fitted her perfectly and the detailing on the dress I thought kept with her age. Also the belt helped this and her hair up gave her an heir of sophistication. I do agree that maybe it was a little over the top for her to wear to the Oscars but she is 16 and I know if I saw that dress I would wear it no matter what. Beautiful!

The Oscars worst dressed!

The Oscars is the award ceremony of the year and the stars go wild when it comes to choosing their outfits, the dresses can be as big as they want. But some people just don't know how to get it right on what is the biggest night of their year.

First up was Jessica Biel who wore Prada and to be honest it looked as if she saw Eva Mendes's Dior gown at the Golden Globes thought I want something like that. Except with her gown it was more like a napkin attacked her. She looked like she was attending a toga party, the dress did not fit right at all and it was too long and made her look frumpy. She teamed it with black shoes and bag which was her attempting to make it work but unfortunately she failed. She didn't even look happy or comfortable in it at all. This was an example of a dress wearing her not the other way around.

Next up was Meryl Streep who wore an Alberta Farretti putty grey gown and I cant seem to pin point my problem with this gown because it did show off her amazing neckline, but her chest seemed to disappear making her look older than she is. Her hair pulled back also added in ageing her and the make up wasn't bright enough, all in all she looked drained. It made her look like she was 78 not 58.

Last but not least is one actor who I adore but when I saw him step onto the red carpet I screamed ‘what are you doing?’ Philip Seymore Hoffman wore a beautiful black tux with black tie and black silk shirt and a waistcoat, all looked fantastic until you reached his head and saw a hat that made him look like he was on his way to rob a bank. Why? I don't understand, did he forget to take it off? Did someone not mention it to him, for example his wife. How could she even stand beside him with it on? It confuses me completely. If he was trying to hide a bald patch he drew much more attention to it by wearing the hat than he would have without it! He was attending the Oscars, a beanie hat is not appropriate at all! I wonder did he take it off inside? This is a good example of how one awful accessory can ruin a nice, respectable outfit.

The dashing Princes of the Grammys

The male artists caught my eye at the 51st annual Grammy awards. Normally the males just wear the usual black suit teamed with a tie or Bow Tie, but the Grammys being style different, means the men can actually show off too.

First there was T.I who went for a brown suit jacket with a waistcoat and a white shirt teamed with jeans in keeping with his cool, laid back image. He also wore Herra glasses which made the outfit. He looked very stylish and even though his accessory girlfriend on his arm looked extremely cheap and brought down his image, in pictures by himself he looked charming.

The next man to stun was Ne-Yo who to be honest looks hot in anything, but I have to say he looked extra handsome on the red carpet. He wore his signature hat with shades and a black fitted, patterned suit jacket with an open white shirt and cravat adding grey suit trousers to top off the look. The look was finished and sophisticated it was clear every detail was thought out. Credit to the stylist!

Jay Z is known for his ever dapper style, but he looked even more the gentleman and music mogul when he showed up in a black suit and black tie with clip, also wearing shades, the big man accessory of the evening. I loved everything about it, even down to the pocket detail with the white squared tissue. He looked fantastic and even slimmer than usual.

All the men looked exceptionally classy and dashing. They stole the show.

The stunning Grammys.

Despite the controversy that surrounded this years Grammys the stars still came out in stunning designer gowns and the males especially shone which is why I'm going to dedicate a separate entry to the dashing fashionista’s themselves. The Grammys is widely known for the artists to be creative and show off and that is exactly what they did this year, although, it was quite tame this year compared to others.

There were many females who looked amazing and were dressed in exquisite designer frocks. But it was two female stars especially who stood out for me.

Jennifer Hudson caught my eye in a beautiful knee length, Todd Lynn dress. This dress was just right for the awards and after her recent troubles did not make her stand out too much and yet she still looked stunning. The dress fitted her curvaceous figure perfectly and was very sophisticated. Her hair swept back meant it did not take away from the dress and the earrings and bracelet was just the right amount of Jewellery.

The next best dressed had to be Carrie Underwood who I think could wear a black sack and still look superb. She was dressed in a Zuhair Murad golden gown and she looked ever more beautiful in it. The only one problem I might have had with the dress would be the neck line I'm not a fan of spaghetti straps and her hair up made her look broad shouldered but that's nit picking because she looked a star which she is. I also loved the way she refrained from wearing a neckpiece because this dress was just the right amount of glamour for the Grammys anything else and it might have looked gaudy.

Worst dressed Grammys

There was a lot of controversy surrounding the 51st Grammy's this year but it did not take away from the yet again fashion mistakes of the evening.

First up was X factor winner Leona Lewis who really missed at her first Grammy ceremony. She was dressed in a gold Randi Rohm gown which was extremely fitted, a little too fitted in certain areas especially noticeable at her chest. This dress screamed 'cheap' which I'm sure it wasn't but from the fish tail shape to the colour, it drained her. She looked messy and not the glamorous new star she should have looked especially since she was nominated. The dress was not right for the Grammys even if it had been on anyone. Her hair didn't even look the normal luxurious curls it normally does. BAD NIGHT for Lewis all round.

Paula Abdul was the next victim, who never really gets it right but in some cases you can slightly see it's a difference of taste. But this Basil soda gown she wore no one will ever see how someone can remotely find this a beautifully gown. The dress was yellow chiffon with detailing on the left shoulder making this dress hideous and looking like a Grammy vomited on her. The belt also does nothing for her. Her hair makes her look like she received a fright most likely when she saw herself in the mirror. Paula Abdul what were you thinking, fire the stylist now!

Last but definitely not least is someone who I've never heard of M.I.A, but now know her after this shockingly bad outfit she wore to the Grammys. The heavily nine month pregnant singer turned up in runners and a dress which was short to say the least for a woman so heavily pregnant. The dress was very outrageous taking a few glances before you realised that she is indeed pregnant. I know the Grammy's is renowned for artists doing there own thing with their outfits but this doesn't even look like she made an effort. But then again I don't no how something so awful could have even been hanging in her closet. The only compliment I can give M.I.A is that she deserves a medal for turning up nine months pregnant and performing.

The Bafta's worst dressed!

As I've said the BAFTA's had a miserable carpet but there were some stars who tried to jazz up the Black feature colour of the night and just made things worse.

I begin with Thandie Newton the lesser of the bad bunch. She wore a vintage gown and ok she might have wanted to be unique but this gown makes her look like a malnourished prom girl. First of all she should not be allowed wear a strapless dress as it draws attention to her very visible collar-bone, secondly the dress is too short for her it's either a short dress or full-length in my book it looks awkward sitting on her feet. And those gold stripes and the netting are hideous. Also she looks like she is wearing no make-up and maybe if she hadn't of sleeked her hair back so much it might not have been such a severe look. This look is just all wrong for Thandie who normally looks stunning on the red carpet.

Next is someone who is normally on the worst dress page in magazines but after seeing her at the SAGA's I thought she might have changed her ways. Angelina Jolie wore a below the knee, Armani Prive dress with Loubatin shoes. It actually is a nice dress the top of it looks ok but it just doesn’t sit right on Jolie's slim figure. It needs to be shorter or longer and again I don't think the strapless look is working for this star. I think she tried to go classic but it just didn't turn out right for her. She also clashed with her main accessory Brad on the night, who actually pulled off the classic look.

Last but not least is Alesha Dixon who tried way too hard to jazz up the carpet in black. She wore Giovanni and by god did she stand out just not in the right way. The dress was way too much for the BAFTA's and Dixon is not even an actress. The ruffles were absolutely awful making her look like a bird. I get that she was trying to be trendy and glam but those gloves just added to the hideousness of the whole thing. It's not the Brits or a music ceremony were you can be quirky it's more classy than that and just everything from the volume to the ruffles to the gloves were awful!!! The only compliment I have is that her make-up and hair and Jewellery were nice.

The Baftas Best Dressed!

The BAFTA’s had a very dull and dark carpet this year. The majority of the stars wore black and the umbrella was the fashion accessory on the night due to the rain. With black being the colour of the night it was hard to differ between the worst and best dressed!

Kate Winslet wore Zac Posen, a fish tail dress which again accentuated her curvaceous figure. The neckline was perfect and the over-all finish of the dress was wonderful. Topped off with a million pounds worth of Chopard Jewellery she looked the true Hollywood actress. The classy revealing back added to the over-all look immensely with her hair adding to the fifties movie star look. My only negative about this dress was that it was too safe she had done this style before at the SAG Awards in a different colour. She needed to step out of her comfort zone.

Penelope Cruz wore another of the stunning black gowns on the carpet. She wore Alia also teamed with a million pounds worth of Chopard Jewellery. This Velvet gown was stunning on her, the criss-cross neck was fantastic highlighting her shoulders and the back was also a nice sexy touch to the dress. Her hair in an up-do allowed us to see her back and also added to the elegance of the dress.

Freida Pinto gets my best dress award for the BAFTA's. She stunned in this pink Oscar De La Renta gown. It was great to see someone bold enough to wear a bit of colour on the night and she did it just right. This dress made her look every bit the star she is. Even though I'm not a big fan of ruffles she carried them off beautifully with her slim figure. Some times young actresses can go for a dress that will out-shine them and make them look older but Freida got it just right! This look is youthful and extremely pretty. Her loose hair added to her girl next door look and her neck piece and bag gave the right bit of glam to her over-all outfit.

The SAGA stunners!!!!

The SAG Awards were even more glamorous than the Golden Globes. The women especially went all out for the 15Th annual SAG Awards.

Kate Winslet stunned in the cobalt blue Narciso Rodriguez gown. This gown sat perfectly on the star, hugging her in all the right places, showing off her magnificent figure. The colour was shocking and it stood out among the rest of the gowns on the carpet. She truly was the most beautiful actress on the carpet. She topped it off beautifully with Chopard diamond earrings and bracelet accompanying her stylish up-do. Kate Winslet wowed me in this dress and for me it has been the best dress thus far on any red carpet!

Anne Hathaway also got it perfect on the night she dazzled in a crystal-laden Azzaro gown. The Grecian neckline sat beautifully on her and showed off her amazingly slender arms. The colour although simple worked with the neck and waist diamonds making this a stunning gown. The fact she was also wearing half-million worth of Cartier diamonds also made this gown stand out. Her hair simple waves which worked well with the gown not letting anything take away from it. The best thing about this dress is that it looks like it was made for Hathaway, it showed off her youthfulness and great sense of style.

Last but not least Angelina for once got it right and wore something other than black. It has to be said it's been a very long time since anything The Lara Croft star wore caught my eye but this Max Azira gown wowed on the carpet. Some critics have come out saying she wore the gown backwards or that it was too simple. But I think that yes it is simple but it somehow works for Jolie the colour is good on her and with her hair up the revealing back adds glamour. This cornflower blue gown topped off with Tiffany & co. Jewellery and Brad Pitt on her arm made for yet another stunning outfit on the SAGA carpet.

SAG awards-What were they thinking?

On the 25Th of January the stars came out in their droves to celebrate the 15Th annual screen actor’s guild award. You'd think with it being an important awards ceremony they'd all have made sure they looked their best?? But NO their were so many awful dresses walking down that red carpet on the night but I weeded through them to choose my three worst!

Emily Blunt has got to have had the worst dress of the night, she wore a silver Pamella Roland sequin keyhole dress. This dress looked like something you would find in an art room, it didn't do anything for her figure, didn't show anything off. The neck line was a disgrace, the tiny spaghetti straps made the dress look cheap and to top it all off it had a split at the front! The only thing that I liked was the revealing back but even at that it didn't do much for her. I just don't know what Emily was thinking, even her hair looked like there was no effort put into it being up in a sleek bun, it's as if she has just come from the gym and to be honest in that dress she could be a gymnast! No jewellery, awful hair-do and simple make-up along with the dress made for a major cock-up in the style department!

Next on my worst dress list for the SAG awards was someone who I hate to be criticising, Eva Longoria. She wore a tangerine Jenny Packham dress; I'm not sure exactly why I don't like this dress as a whole or on Eva. Whether it's the ruffles, colour or style and fit I'm just not sure. The ruffles put me off firstly; I don't see the need for the ones around her waist? Eva has a beautiful shapely figure and these just seem to hide it instead of showing it off! Also for some reason the length makes her look tiny, which she is, but that's not something I'm sure she wanted to highlight. The colour really bothers me, I'm not a big fan of tangerine anyways, but on paper you would think with Eva's skin colouring that she could pull it off but in reality she really doesn't, it seems to drain her and not make her shine as she normally does. Even what should look beautiful the neck line doesn't, the dress was just a bad choice which Eva normally doesn't make so with this I'll let her away with the one mistake!

Olivia Wilde wearing Ralph Lauren is someone who also got it very wrong. Even though you can see that she intended to look sexy, she unfortunately just looks flat chested and extremely skinny! The colour is actually OK on her but the style and fit is all wrong. She has a small chest and there is nothing wrong with that but no woman wants to highlight the fact and that's exactly what the neck line does. The darts on the chest to the side are also visible emphasizing again her lack of chest. The stripes of material on the hips are intended to give her hips which it does not and just accentuates the fact she has no hips and emphasizes her box figure. This dress unfortunately is not for her size it would be perfect for a curvier girl like J.lo and if I can see how wrong this dress is on for her I can't see why the stylist didn't warn her against choosing this dress. She did get it right with the hair and jewellery and even the clutch was nice it's just unfortunate she choose this simple, un-flattering dress!
